Facebook tries to boost Marketplace sales

Business Insider - BI Intelligence Facebook is testing out new placement of its Marketplace icon on the mobile app to increase its visibility and drive more e-commerce sales, reports Internet Retailer. The platform's dedicated shopping section launched testing in October and was previously only accessible by clicking on the "More" tab. Currently, a small number of users in the US can access Marketplace through the icon placed on the bottom of the screen ? a space reserved for important features like News Feed, Requests, and Notifications. The placement of a Marketplace icon among these Facebook mainstays signals the company's intention to focus heavily on its e-commerce capabilities this year. While Facebook is currently the top social media referrer for retailers, it has yet to find success in selling on its own platform.
